EN: NessieDVB compatible with EyeTV?

Postby morisJ » Mon Jul 16, 2012 10:11 am

I'm trying to use NessieDVB with EyeTV but without succeeding. Do you know if this is (or will be) possible?

Thanks :)

PS.
I wrote two posts but till now no answer... Is this board still active ?

Hi morisJ.

Yes, the board is still active. But you are right - not so much talks during last time.

About EyeTV - I have no idea how they are connecting to the server.
If you know where to get EyeTV's network protocol specification,
let us know. We can check if it is possible to add it to the NessieDVB.

Thanks for answering ;)

'network protocol specification' hmm...?
I have on my mac EyeTV (the software) and on my network a 'Netstream Sat' (the hardware).

But what can I practically do to discover which is their 'network protocol'?

Well, the simplest and more streightforward way would be if they have
theirs network protocol documented somehow.

Unfortunatelly more of vendors think that having theirs own
protocol un-published is good for the bussiness. We think
way around. That is the reason why we are supporting vtuner
project.

So, another way of protocol discovering is reverse engineering
of live connection. Using some packet sniffer, like wireshark,
we can get samples of data streams pasing between client
and server. Understanding that we can try to "reinvent wheels"
so recreating protocol specification for captured data.
The big issue can be if network connection is encrypted.

BTW, just found interesting article about EyeTV reverse engineering:

Is there enough information for you?

(Of course I'm disponible for eventual tests ;) )

Don't think it is enough. But at least it is good start point ;)

Anyway, protocol reverse engineering is not easy process, so
don't expect anything usable soon. The main reason is that
I'm working on other stuffs too, so no much time to play with it
right now. If you are able to go yourself, or find somebody
who would like to do it, it could speed up things for sure.

I can help, but can not promise I will work on it so much.
